![]() Part of the problem, it seems, is that there were way too many cooks in the kitchen, at least at the script level. I won't spoil what actually happens or why, but anyone who has seen even some of these movies will figure out the big "twist" long before it's revealed. (How long have they been there waiting for him, I wonder?) Then there's the film's many obvious sources of inspiration, which include (but are not limited to) 2001, Blade Runner, Tron, Wargames, The Terminator, The Fugitive, the Bourne films, and Live Free or Die Hard. All of the film's '90s movie cred is firmly in place: broad characterizations explained in geysers of expository dialogue, technology so egregiously misguided that "runaway" scarcely scratches the surface as a description of its behavior, and - of course - a scene in which a guy arrives so late for a funeral that he literally walks up to the casket as the rest of the mourners watch stationary from their seats. Before long, Jerry and Rachel discover that they have been recruited as operatives in a mysterious conspiracy where not only do they not know what they're doing, but whether or not they will survive if they succeed. Before he (or they) can make sense of what's happening, Jerry is mysteriously freed from capture and sent to find a getaway car driven by Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan), a single mother who anxiously awaits information from the same unknown person about her kidnapped son. Despite a call from an unknown person advising him to flee, Jerry is soon apprehended by the authorities and interrogated by Thomas Morgan (Billy Bob Thornton), an agent for a state-run terrorist task force. Shia Le Beouf ( Transformers) plays Jerry Shaw, a "copy associate" at a low-rent Kinko's knockoff who returns home from his twin brother's funeral to discover his bank account full of cash and his apartment full of terrorist paraphernalia. A story born from the well-worn hardware of technothrillers past but without the proper software upgrade to accompany it, Eagle Eye is a mediocre attempt at suspense that manages to lose all of its dramatic weight at the exact moment it drops its heaviest truths. Unfortunately, in an age when folks can practically shoot a feature film on their cell phones and Web sites can offer real-time satellite images of your backyard, this kind of story is about as bone-chilling as a brain freeze from the last sip of an Icee: You forgot it could happen, but then you remember you were the one who drank the thing in the first place. A film about the potential dangers of our plugged-in, hooked-up culture, it would have stood up beautifully against computer-based thrillers of that time like The Net or Hackers, not to mention the spate of technophobic Michael Crichton adaptations ( Jurassic Park, Rising Sun, Disclosure) that excited and terrified audiences during the dawn of the Internet era. ![]() If Eagle Eye were released in the early 1990s, it might now qualify as a classic. ![]() I prefer to use the portable (.zip) version of SUMo from KC Softwares (the. ![]() that I know is fully updated and can't be upgraded to newer Win 7 and higher versions. ![]() Like many other software updaters, SUMo incorrectly recommends updates for some legacy software (special versions for unsupported OSs like Win XP / Vista) like Firefox ESR 52.9.0, Malwarebytes Free 3.5.1, etc. that is still supported on my old Vista machine (KC Softwares' hardware driver updater, which I don't use, is called DUMo, but the Snappy Driver utility you used is a good choice). Fortunately, that updated NVIDIA driver stopped the BSODs, but there's no guarantee that an updated hardware driver will work correctly on your computer if it hasn't been certified by your computer manufacturer. For example, I had a problem several years ago with intermittent BSODs that were caused by the nvlddmkm.sys driver for my NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, and I used the GeForce site at Download The Latest Official GeForce Drivers to find the latest Vista-compatible driver that matched my graphics card model. However, the hardware drivers recommended by these driver updaters aren't certified to work correctly with the BIOS, motherboard and other components in your system, unlike the certified drivers that are normally available on the support page of your computer make and model.Īs a general rule, I don't update any hardware drivers on my Vista SP2 computer unless they're causing a problem, and if required I always look for newer drivers on the manufacturer's site. You might have better luck with a driver updater utility, since it would be scanning for newer drivers for hardware components like network cards, graphics cards, etc installed in your computer that are made by other manufacturers like NVIDIA, Realtek, etc. Most paid (Pro) versions of these software updater utilities add automatic updating of detected updates, but they wouldn't install missing proprietary software that is specific to the make and model of your computer like the Sony Event Service. exe program files to identify all your installed software and then look for any missing updates. My kids are also enjoying the book, "How Airplanes Work," which also covers the process of flying from arrival to departure. The blog is full of great ideas for parenting and homeschooling special needs kids and has tons of free printables, so it's very worthwhile to visit. I think we should do that before our trip as well. Her family went to the courthouse with backpacks full of belongings to practice going through security, as one of their pre-flight activities. She is raising four special needs kids and did an extensive preparation period before they took their first airplane trip. I highly recommend checking out the blog post at Every Star is Different. The best part is that you can print this book off as many times as you'd like (personal use only), so your child can color it on every flight! I recommend these twist up colored pencils for coloring although triangular crayons might be better for some kids, as they won't roll off the tray table. Your child can work on the pictures while on the plane. There are 16 pages, which includes the text from the social story and a few more fun prompts. The coloring book is set up to be printed back to back and folded into a booklet. These one should be fine and hopefully the others will as well. They messed up my entire library (almost 1000 between my two blogs), and I'm still trying to get them all fixed. If you're having trouble with my other printables, blame Google. Then, review one card at a time just before you experience it on the journey. Read through the cards frequently before you get to the airport. I included a spot on the cards to guide your hole punching, so you can put them on a keyring or lanyard. I recommend cutting them apart, and then laminating them for durability. The color printable includes 12 cards that you can print and use before and during your trip. So hard! The story talks about arriving at the airport, checking bags at the ticket counter, going through security, boarding the plane, behavior while on the plane, and other important things your child needs to know. My goal with this social story was to cover all the major moments in airplane travel, while still keeping the context short and simple. The creator made it super easy to make the social story with a matching coloring book. I am so happy that she offers her art in both color and black and white. I found all these great airplane travel graphics from Educlips on Teachers Pay Teachers. ![]() It is one thing to be “loved and wanted, accepted and cherished” in general and it is another thing to receive that kind of devotion in the sexual sphere. Photo from Component #3: Deep Sexual and Erotic Intimacy While this component may sound a bit more predictable, what does it actually mean though apart from engaging in sex? In the study, one woman described this as feeling “loved and wanted, accepted and cherished” by her husband (Kleinplatz et al., 2009). The researchers found that “great sex” is composed of seven major components with two minor components or considerations (Kleinplatz et al., 2009). If we're talking shorts it doesn't really matter that much. Part of why Sorkin comes in so consistently under length on long scripts is because his dialog flows, and naturally comes out pretty fast. I mean, I remember reading about a Shakespeare production where they used the original pronunciation and those performances were typically significantly faster than modern pronunciation. There are so many things that adjust that, though. I think 10-20% is more normal - that's my experience based on timing table reads for a variety of projects. While there's certainly a ton of variance (a page of monolog is a lot more words than a page of alternative quippy one-liners) I think on average the reduction is probably not 30-40%. But other than the total length of the script, it has very little importance and is often completely inaccurate. The most significant way this impacts writers is that one page equals one minute is often used to enforce arbitrary page limits and we all have to deal with that. The one page equals one minute thing is a rough rule of thumb which is primarily used by producers to guess at the length of unproduced movies. But if you have a script that is all dialogue, it will almost always be shorter in runtime than the page length.Īlso I'll just throw this out there for anyone who cares. If you have a screenplay comprised of equal parts action lines and dialogue it might average out close to one page equals one minute. Conversely action lines take up less space on the page but often take longer to play out in the finished film. Dialogue typically takes less screentime compared to the large amount of space it takes up on the page. SAL KHAN: Yes. How we think about numbers and what is the mostĮveryday lives. However, the fact that our thinking is not quite like that becomes apparent when we're dealing with large numbers. As a result, we base all our mathematics on this. The reason you feel that you think linearly is because we naturally count objects as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc and since we think of each thing we count as distinct, we think of there being an equal distance between each number on the number line. A German physician by the name of Ernst Weber, who is considered one of the principle founders of experimental psychology was the first to notice this. When it comes to a certain force pressing up on our skin it's the same way. With each octave we actually have a doubling of the sound frequency, however, when we are listening to the notes being played one after another we think of them incrementing in equally spaced intervals because that's how we're taught to think of numbers for the purposes of counting and basic math. All humans naturally think of pitch in a logarithmic scale without realizing it. |
